Properties of silk - a gain for the body

How can a fabric feel cool and warm at the same time? Only silk unites these contradicting properties. The fabric is wonderfully smooth, which is why it feels cool on the skin. In addition, like wool, silk can absorb about a third of its own weight in vaporous moisture; the moisture is sucked into the cavities of the fibers (Fachwissen Bekleidung, Verlag Europa-Lehrmittel 2007, p.23). This also contributes to the wonderfully cooling climate of silk fabrics.

But how now the warmth at the same time?

The fibers are particularly dense in silk, millions of small cavities are formed that can store heat, the principle is known from double or triple glazed windows, here too it is the air-filled cavities that are responsible for the good insulating effect.

Silk fabrics can be worn directly on the skin both in summer and in winter and sleeping in or on silk creates the perfect climate for restful nights, as skin and hair can breathe, you neither freeze nor sweat.

Facial skin and hair in particular benefit from the smoothness of the silk fabrics, as the upper layer is not roughened. The difference can be seen particularly well with cotton and linen. These fabrics literally make your hair stick up or your face appear wrinkled. Silk is gentle, the hair is softer, shines more and the skin feels smoother and more relaxed.
